Some sweet Vidalia onions

This week is the Vidalia onion festival and in honor of that I wanted to make my first blog post about something near and dear to our community, onions! Yep, I know that sounds so funny! To be considered a "Vidalia onion", the crops must be grown within 75 miles of Vidalia, Georgia. So of course we are proud to be growers of the famous sweet Vidalia onion!

If you walk into a local's home don't be surprised to see onion bowls, onion door hangers, onion dish towels, even onion Christmas ornaments! So it never fails, every year I get asked to do pictures in the onion field. This post is dedicated to some of my favorite onion field pictures!

For many years after high school, I didn't participate much in the onion festival, but now that I have a stepdaughter the excitement for the annual festival has all come back to me. Our favorite thing to participate in is the street dance. One year they let Raynee get on stage and sing in the mic, which is now is her mission every time we go! Her second favorite thing is of course, the carnival! I guess technically these pictures are not in an onion field, but they're still some of my favorites from the onion festival!

To see what other activities the onion festival has, check out this link.

Every year they crown the new Vidalia onion queens. This year I got the opportunity to take pictures of all the 2019 onion queens!

But of course, not everyone is a fan of the onions...

Happy onion festival week!
